Apple TV Shockingly Adds Google Cast Support After Realizing Users Might Actually Want To Watch Things

In a move experts are calling “moderately useful and almost caring,” Apple TV has announced support for Google Cast, the feature that lets users send videos from their phones to their TVs, shortly after Netflix dumped the feature like a forgotten iPod shuffle.

“We noticed people enjoy watching content on large screens and not just on overpriced handheld rectangles,” said Apple Vice President of Fads, Darcy Millstone, while proudly gesturing at a wall of partially charged MagSafe pucks. “By adding Google Cast, we’re showing our commitment to the radical concept of letting customers use our products in the way most convenient for them—just as long as they do it inside our ecosystem and pay $9.99 a month for it.”

Tech industry observers expressed bewilderment at the announcement, suspecting it was the result of an accidental AirDrop from a Google intern. “I assumed hell would freeze over before Apple added literal Google anything to their hardware,” said tech analyst and Chromecast superfan Glenn Wisely, posting from his 2013 Nexus 5. “But if Apple’s willing to do this, maybe they’ll also add USB ports that aren’t just for show.”

Meanwhile, Netflix defended its abrupt removal of Google Cast support, claiming it was part of its bold new initiative, “Making Streaming Terrible Again.” “People need to stop expecting consistency, reliability, or happiness from us,” said Netflix User Experience Director, Linda Huffman. “Instead, we’re focusing on new strategies like randomly auto-playing Guy Ritchie movies until customers give up and read a book.”

At press time, Apple confirmed the Google Cast update would be available to all Apple TV users—just as soon as they locate the hidden toggle in Settings > Privacy > Experimental > Maybe .
