Will Smith Sued by Violinist Over Alleged Abuse: ‘He Tried to Get Me to Play the Fresh Prince Theme Backwards’

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Legal drama hit a high note this week as renowned tour violinist Brian King Joseph filed a lawsuit against Will Smith, claiming the rapper-actor subjected him to predatory behavior, wrongful termination, and repeated requests to play iconic 1990s TV theme songs in reverse.

According to court documents, Joseph alleges that Smith’s ‘relentless, inappropriate demands’ began on the first day of rehearsal. ‘He kept whispering, “Play it funky, maestro, play it funky,”’ Joseph stated in the suit, ‘and then asked if I could moonwalk while holding a G-sharp for 30 bars.’

Smith’s lawyer, Marcus Radner, dismissed the allegations: ‘Mr. Smith has always treated his musicians with utmost respect. He merely suggested the violinist “jazz things up” by performing his greatest hits while doing the Carlton dance. That’s not predatory—it’s artistry.’

Tour manager Sheryl Buckley recalled Smith’s hands-on approach. ‘Will asked everyone to call him “Big Willy Style” and refused to rehearse unless someone played “Miami” on a Stradivarius. I thought it was charming, but apparently not everyone did.’

This latest lawsuit follows a string of legal skirmishes for Smith, who was most recently sued by a harmonica player for ’emotional distress caused by repeated requests to beatbox the Men In Black soundtrack.’

When reached for comment, Smith reportedly responded, ‘Keep my violinist’s name out your mouth.’
