In a bold attempt to spice up the nation’s most sedate pastime, Range Sports announced Thursday their acquisition of Short Game Chef, a subscription golf instruction service that will now provide lessons on both chipping and preparing a delightful hollandaise.
Founded by Parker McLachlin, former PGA Tour winner and recent survivor of a Food Network audition, Short Game Chef promises to help golfers of all abilities improve their short game through carefully curated drills, recipes, and the occasional garnish advice. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, although insiders say the purchase price was “somewhere between a used sand wedge and the GDP of Liechtenstein.”
“Our goal is to make golf exciting for everyone, even those with the attention span of a distracted squirrel,” explained Range Sports CEO Bryce Callahan, while stuffing a nine-iron into an oven mitt. “Now, if you shank a pitch shot, at least you’ll have a decent risotto to fall back on.”
Early subscribers are reportedly delighted by features like the new Spinach Soufflé Bunker Escape and the Par 3 Pesto Challenge. “Nothing improved my flop shot like learning to poach an egg mid-swing,” said Short Game Chef convert Nancy Rillings. “My kitchen handicap is down to single digits.”
PGA officials are cautiously optimistic. “If this helps players stop talking about their fantasy football teams during tournaments, I’m all for it,” said PGA spokesperson Lance Dawley, moments before demonstrating the inward nine with a spatula.
