LOS ANGELES — Award-winning singer Chappell Roan shocked music fans Tuesday by publicly retracting her heartfelt tribute to Brigitte Bardot, after learning the late French actress once held ‘alarmingly 1960s opinions’ on several social issues. The “Red Wine Supernova” artist apologized deeply for failing to compile a “450-page vetting dossier” before admitting that Bardot inspired her hairstyle for several weeks in 2020.
“I should have known better than to admire anyone without a full criminal background check and notarized list of all social media posts since 1924,” Roan said in a tearful, seven-minute Instagram Live streamed from the apology wing of her Hollywood home. “From now on, I promise to only be inspired by people who have never made a single mistake—not even in private.”
Music blogger Kyra Pennington told PopSatire, “It’s just irresponsible. I expect every pop star to research historical figures to a degree that would make the CIA blush. Frankly, I want a bibliography with every album drop.”
Roan’s team announced the immediate withdrawal of all merchandise featuring Bardot’s name, image, or even the letter ‘B.’ “We’re even changing the setlist to avoid any song starting with ‘B,’” said manager Lucas Hightower. “You can never be too careful.”
At press time, Roan’s fans were reportedly combing through the entire cast of “The Aristocats” to make sure no other tributes would need to be retracted. “We’re suspicious of the old dog,” said Twitter user @CancelCultureKween. “He just looks problematic.”
