HOLLYWOOD—In what experts are calling “the unambiguous triumph of six-year-old tastebuds,” Disney’s ‘Zootopia 2’ officially toppled ‘A Minecraft Movie’ this weekend, cementing itself as 2025’s highest-grossing domestic release with $424 million and a small mountain of popcorn debris. The surprising upset came after months of intense lobbying from the under-10 demographic, representing the fastest-growing constituency in American culture.
“We always knew if we let the kids pick the movies, they’d eventually control the GDP,” said box office analyst Shelby Plimpton, nervously clutching a stack of plush bunny toys. “Studios are now reconsidering whether to even bother releasing films for people over the age of 12.”
Industry insiders note that ‘Zootopia 2’ has not only obliterated domestic records but also inspired a new federal holiday, ‘Hopps Day,’ in honor of protagonist Judy Hopps, complete with mandatory bunny ear headbands for federal employees. Disney marketing executive Liam D’Arcy celebrated the achievement: “We’re just grateful that American parents can watch the same animated chase sequence 78 times in a weekend and not call it child labor.”
Meanwhile, representatives for ‘A Minecraft Movie’ say they are proud to have held the crown for nearly four weeks. “We had a good run,” said producer Kelsey Barnard, adjusting her Creeper scarf. “But you can’t compete with a talking fox and the primal urge to buy themed cereal at Target.”
According to experts, next year’s most likely box office champ will be ‘Emoji Movie 2: Left on Read.’
