In a groundbreaking moment during Thursday night’s NFL showdown, officials unveiled what is being called the ‘Oopsie Timeout’—a revolutionary rule allowing the Green Bay Packers to call timeouts whenever things get a bit too complicated, even if they commit a blatant penalty in the process.
The controversy ignited in the second quarter when Packers right tackle Jake Runyan appeared to leap five seconds early, causing both teams, the fans, and several local dogs to freeze in confusion. Instead of penalizing the offense, referee Gerald ‘Quick Whistle’ Pike paused the game and granted Green Bay a timeout, reportedly shouting, ‘Let’s just start fresh, boys. No harm done!’
NFL spokesman Harold Duggleworth explained, ‘Listen, the game’s hard enough without having to remember all the little rules. The Packers looked like they needed a breather. We’re all human here.’
Packers coach Matt LaFleur was appreciative of the new protocol. ‘Look, the play clock, the snap count, basic hand-eye coordination—it gets overwhelming. We’re grateful for the Oopsie Timeout. It’s what the league’s all about.’
Fans in attendance were split. ‘I thought my TV had glitched,’ said Wisconsin native Cheryl Bromley. ‘But then I realized, no, that’s just how Packers football works now.’
When asked if the rule would apply to all teams, NFL rules analyst Trent Norville clarified, ‘Probably not. But we’ll see if the Cowboys forget how to line up next week.’
At press time, the league was reportedly considering implementing an ‘Everybody Gets a Trophy’ end zone celebration.
