LOS ANGELES—In what experts are calling ‘deeply surprising news for 1940s-era studio executives,’ billionaire media mogul Tyler Perry was blindsided this week by a second $77 million lawsuit alleging that leveraging his Hollywood power for sexual advances might, in fact, be unacceptable in the 21st century.
The complaint, filed by aspiring actor Mario Rodriguez, alleges Perry repeatedly subjected him to unwanted sexual advances after dangling the coveted role of ‘Irrelevant Door Dasher #7’ in the classic 2016 film Boo! A Madea Halloween. “I was honored to have a serious man of the arts show interest in my talents,” Rodriguez stated in a carefully prepared Instagram note, “but I didn’t realize his idea of a screen test would involve that much…physical improv.”
The lawsuit paints a detailed picture of Perry’s alleged misconduct, which reportedly occurred in his Los Angeles home, a locale Rodriguez described as “decorated in mid-century trauma chic.” The suit further claims that Lionsgate Studios, when informed, responded with an official studio memo titled ‘Allegations: Please Direct to the PR Intern.’
“It’s a devastating moment for Hollywood,” said entertainment lawyer Rhonda Blanks, who specializes in boundary violations under the SAG-AFTRA ‘Oops Clause.’ “If powerful men can’t use their influence for deeply uncomfortable reasons, how will the industry survive?”
Reached for comment, a Lionsgate spokesperson replied, “We stand by our zero-tolerance policy for scandals not already trending on Twitter.”
Perry himself was unavailable, reportedly busy directing his new film: Madea Goes To HR.
