Trump Forgets to Tell Congress About Venezuela Operation, Claims ‘Was Too Busy Tweeting About It’

In a dramatic assertion of executive discretion, President Donald Trump reportedly authorized an overnight raid to apprehend Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia, without so much as a courtesy text to Congress. The operation, codenamed ‘Operation Super Secret But Also On Twitter,’ was carried out with the utmost secrecy—except for the President’s running commentary on Truth Social.

“Frankly, I thought Congress already knew—everyone else did,” Trump told reporters, adding, “I live-streamed the helicopter approach on Instagram. If Nancy Pelosi missed it, that’s on her.” According to White House officials, the President’s primary reasoning for bypassing Congress was a lack of time. “He had to choose between informing Congress or live-tweeting in all-caps. He made the hard choice,” said White House Press Secretary Tiffany Trump-Perdue.

Lawmakers expressed confusion and mild annoyance at learning about the foreign operation from push notifications on their phones. “I saw something about a Venezuelan getaway and assumed it was a new Netflix series,” said Senator Chuck Grassley, who later admitted, “I don’t really know who Maduro is. I just really like the word empanada.”

When pressed on the constitutional implications, Trump explained, “It’s like, nobody ever tells me when it’s National Pancake Day. Sometimes you just gotta act, folks.” The administration has not ruled out future unilateral executive actions, with Trump hinting that Canada is “on notice for suspiciously polite behavior.”
