Judge Deals Blow To Trump’s Tunnel Demands, Rejects $16 Billion Plan For ‘Tunnel Of Greatness Starring Donald Trump’

In a blow to infrastructure-themed branding, a federal judge on Thursday overturned former President Donald Trump’s freeze on $16 billion in Gateway Project funds, thwarting his reported demand that all major East Coast transit hubs be renamed in his honor.

“Americans deserve world-class transportation, not world-class ego trips,” declared Judge Wendy Krimble in her ruling. The president had previously refused to release federal funds unless Dulles International Airport was rechristened “Trump Intergalactic Gateway” and Penn Station became “Trump’s Winningest Station, Possibly In The Universe.”

White House sources described Trump’s vision for the tunnel as “a historic passage to unite New Jersey and New York under one name: Trumpsylvania.” “Why should it be called the Hudson Tunnel when it could be the Donald J. Trump Tunnel Of Tremendousness?” wrote former Press Secretary Myles Parsnip in a leaked memo.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul welcomed the news, stating, “Now commuters can look forward to fewer delays and only mild existential dread, instead of pausing twice daily to salute a statue of Mr. Trump in a golden hardhat.”

Transit historian Dr. Celeste Chumsky noted, “While past presidents have subtle libraries and highways, Mr. Trump’s requests involved marble busts at every turnstile and a 24/7 voiceover recounting dealmaking achievements over the PA system.”

The Gateway Project will now focus on repairing the aging 1910 tunnel, leaving the future of the 80-foot-tall rotating Trump head monument, originally proposed for the Jersey entrance, in limbo.
