LOS ANGELES—In a move sure to delight fans of both romance and poultry, Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures has announced production of “Extra Crispy Love,” a romantic comedy starring Chicken Shop Date creator Amelia Dimoldenberg as a by-the-book journalist who discovers love while inhaling secondhand fryer fumes. The film, set primarily in various greasy backroom booths of London fast food franchises, follows Dimoldenberg’s character as her orderly world collapses after a surprise encounter with a celebrity who seductively orders a six-piece meal with coleslaw.
Dimoldenberg, who is also producing, called the project “the perfect blend of spice and awkward small talk.” “I’ve always believed true romance can only start under fluorescent lights next to a malfunctioning ketchup dispenser,” she told reporters, dipping a nugget into sweet chili sauce. “It’s a story that needs to be told.”
Gloria Sanchez Productions issued a statement promising the film would explore what happens when journalistic integrity collides with mysterious stains on formica tables. “It’s a classic tale,” said producer Linda Spatchcock. “Girl meets Z-list celebrity. Girl asks if he prefers thighs or drumsticks. Girl questions the very nature of desire.”
Film critic Reginald Greaseworth praised the casting, noting, “Dimoldenberg has a rare ability to maintain eye contact while asking Britain’s most famous rappers about their favorite dipping sauce. That’s chemistry you can’t fake.”
Sources claim early drafts included a climactic scene in which Dimoldenberg dramatically proposes over a value bucket, but it was cut for being “too emotionally raw for general audiences.”
