Amazon’s ‘Life Is Strange’ Show To Allow Viewers To Rewind Episodes And Fix Casting Choices

Amazon Prime Video has announced its ‘Life Is Strange’ adaptation will provide viewers with the ability to rewind through episodes to change plot points and even swap out cast members in real time, marking a bold step forward in streaming interactivity.

The announcement follows news that Maisy Stella and Tatum Grace Hopkins have been cast as Chloe and Max, respectively. “We wanted to capture the essence of the game—mostly indecision, regret, and constant do-overs,” said showrunner Hank Dresden. “Now, if fans don’t like a performance or a haircut, they can just rewind and pick an alternate take.”

The technology, dubbed ‘Prime Time Manipulation,’ lets viewers choose from a rotating list of backup actors, including a CGI dog for Max or an AI-generated Chloe who only communicates through moody Tumblr posts. “This is what television was always meant to be: a never-ending cycle of minor dissatisfaction that you can almost fix, but never quite entirely,” explained Amazon Head of Innovation Loretta Pines.

Fan forums were quick to react. “Finally, I can fix every decision that makes me uncomfortable, just like in real life,” said Reddit user SoulRewinder92. “If only my parents had this feature.”

Production insiders expect the show’s first season to take upwards of three years to complete, as viewers struggle to settle on any definitive plot, tone, or facial expression.
