Americans Celebrate Week Between Christmas and New Year’s by Panic-Buying Discount Phones, Power Banks, and Mario Games They’ll Instantly Lose in Couch

Americans nationwide are reportedly flocking to online retailers this week in what experts are calling the ‘Great Year-End Purge,’ stockpiling deeply discounted gadgets and games to fill the existential void between Christmas and New Year’s.

Shopping carts have become battlegrounds for deals on such essentials as the Pixel 10 Pro XL—a phone boasting 16GB of RAM, a display brighter than the sun, and a Pro Res Zoom mode that, according to Google engineer Derek Lathers, ‘is sometimes great, sometimes actively sabotages your friendships with badly cropped group selfies.’ Best Buy employee Quinn James reported a surge in customers asking, ‘Do you think the Pixel 10 Pro XL would make me more interesting at parties, or should I just get AirTags so my personality can be found by my friends?’

Parents are also capitalizing on up to 50 percent off Nintendo Switch games, including ‘Super Mario Odyssey,’ now playable for the low price of $39.99 or just three hours of small talk with a nephew. ‘I bought Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom for my daughter, but honestly I just needed something to do while pretending to clean,’ admitted Melissa Traeger, mother of two and self-proclaimed ‘Deal Warrior.’

Meanwhile, Anker’s 25,000mAh power bank is flying off shelves, as travelers prepare to spend six hours charging their phones for a 40-minute flight delay. ‘It’s very comforting to know my power bank can charge four devices at once, even though I only own one outdated Kindle,’ said power user Brad Choi, standing in an Amazon return line.

At press time, experts predicted the deals would continue until Americans collectively remember their credit card bills come January.
