Federal Judge Demands Sworn Testimony From Trump Officials, Unconvinced ‘We Forgot Court Order’ Counts As Legal Defense

WASHINGTON—After a brief hiatus so the justice system could collectively sigh in exhaustion, U.S. District Judge James Boasberg announced Wednesday the reopening of hearings into whether Trump administration officials intentionally deported hundreds of men to El Salvador, despite a direct court order to the contrary. The judge appeared skeptical of earlier explanations, particularly the argument that “government officials simply can’t remember every single judicial demand that crosses their desk before breakfast.”

“I am not persuaded by the defense’s assertion that ‘the order was on the other clipboard,'” stated Boasberg, noting that his instructions had been sent via email, voicemail, certified owl, and a skywriting airplane. “I will require sworn testimony to clarify whether the administration is using a rotating amnesia defense or simply ran out of room on its Post-it notes.”

In a rare on-the-record comment, former Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security Biff Tumbleweed said, “Honestly, it’s hard to keep up. Judge Boasberg says stop flights, my Fitbit says walk 10,000 steps—it’s just too much information.”

Administration legal advisor Janice Muddle insisted, “Our official policy is to follow all court orders, unless they’re inconvenient, confusing, or printed in a font bigger than 12-point Times New Roman.”

Meanwhile, White House spokesperson Brickley Chum issued a statement: “The President remains committed to obeying all judicial rulings, so long as they’re delivered with a gift basket or at least a nice card.”

Closing arguments are expected to address whether ‘accidentally’ is a valid legal term for deporting plane-loads of people to the wrong country.
