Following the announcement that Bob the Drag Queen’s new comedy special, “This Is Wild,” is set to premiere on Hulu January 16, leading technology experts are warning the public that the streaming service’s infrastructure may not be able to withstand the sheer magnitude of drag-fueled hilarity.
“We’ve load tested for everything—Game of Thrones finales, 90,000 simultaneous streams of the ‘Golden Bachelor’ reunion,” confessed Hulu CTO Marsha Kenning, “but honestly, we never anticipated the bandwidth strain that comes from sequined gowns and perfectly timed punchlines. Our servers are shaking in their racks.”
Bob the Drag Queen, whose real name is Caldwell Tidicue, is reportedly unconcerned, telling reporters, “If a wig reveal can crash the internet, imagine what 60 minutes of my jokes will do. Hulu should consider partnering with NASA.”
Other streaming platforms have taken pre-emptive action. According to Netflix strategist Derrick Munn, “We’re sending an alert to users: In case of Hulu meltdown, please remain calm and re-watch ‘Emily in Paris’ until further notice.”
Comedy Dynamics, which produced the special, remains optimistic. “We’re consulting with FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security on best practices,” said producer Jamie Fyler. “No one wants a nationwide comedy blackout like we saw after ‘Cats: The Movie.’ We’re ready.”
At press time, Hulu was reportedly stockpiling feathers, glitter, and fiber optic cable.
