KUALA LUMPUR—The Malaysian Correctional Service unveiled plans for a luxury ‘Najib Wing’ this week, following former Prime Minister Najib Razak’s latest award of 15 bonus years for his enthusiastic participation in the nation’s largest state fund plundering program. The new sentence, tacked onto his existing six-year vacation, brings Najib’s grand total to 21 years, making him the undisputed champion of the Malaysian Penal Loyalty Program.
“When we designed the sentence rewards system, we didn’t expect anyone to be quite so dedicated,” admitted prison warden Amirul Azman, browsing blueprints for the Najib Executive Suite, expected to feature floor-to-ceiling windows and a small investment bank. “Frankly, we’re a little worried he’ll run out of wall space for his sentencing certificates.”
Najib, who previously expressed disappointment at only facing six years for the theft of several billion dollars from the 1MDB sovereign wealth fund, was reportedly delighted by the additional prison time. “It’s nice to see my hard work finally paying off,” said Najib in a handwritten statement released through his legal team. “I look forward to the next sentencing event—rumor is there’ll be a pizza party.”
Supporters gathered outside Sungai Buloh Prison, waving banners emblazoned with ‘Go for Life, Najib!’ Retired banker Lim Boon Hong commented, “Back in my day, you’d barely get a slap on the wrist for siphoning off public funds. It’s nice to see the justice system bringing back old-fashioned marathon sentencing.”
Legal experts predict the 1MDB case will generate enough convictions for Najib to eventually redeem a free get-out-of-jail card, or at least win a set of steak knives.
