LOS GATOS, CA — In a bold effort to finally codify America’s questionable taste, Netflix announced Tuesday that its rebooted ‘Star Search’ competition will allow viewers to vote on winners directly within the Netflix app—removing all barriers between you and your ability to launch mediocre yodelers to overnight stardom.
The innovative new voting system works seamlessly during live shows, letting audiences influence outcomes instantly without laboriously texting a code or navigating away from their fifth binge-watch of ‘Love Is Blind: Antarctica.’ Netflix says the system is so easy a parent could accidentally crown a ventriloquist champion simply by leaning on their remote.
“Viewers have always wanted a say in who wins, and now there’s absolutely nothing standing in their way—not standards, not ethics, not even password sharing,” said Marge Filbert, Netflix’s Head of Interactive Catastrophes. “Your grandmother’s cat could make someone a star just by walking on the Roku.”
Contestant manager Troy Dindle explained, “It’s exciting to know millions of people can decide my fate with the same reckless abandon they use for picking a pizza topping. Democracy in action!”
Netflix has also confirmed that celebrity judges—Mark Cuban, Paula Abdul, and a hologram of Ed McMahon—will remain powerless to influence results, except during special bonus rounds where they can plead with viewers not to vote for an interpretive juggler out of spite.
“Finally, my 12-year-old and her iPad army can decide what’s culture,” said excited parent Janet Rowell, “just like the Founding Fathers intended.”
