Nike Unveils Air Jordan 9 ‘Flint Grey’ to Honor Memory of Michael Jordan’s Baseball Career Nobody Asked For

In a bold move that combines the worlds of limited-edition footwear and Michael Jordan sports trivia nobody remembers, Nike has released the Air Jordan 9 Retro ‘Flint Grey and French Blue’—a colorway inspired by the greatest NBA retirement hobby since LeBron’s Instagram live streams.

Nike designers say the new sneaks pay homage to the legendary period when Michael Jordan, fresh off his first NBA retirement in 1993, courageously hit .202 for the minor-league Birmingham Barons. “We wanted to capture the spirit of athletic mediocrity and slight confusion that defined Jordan’s baseball years,” said Nike’s Senior Nostalgia Executive, Margot Shetterly. “Each pair comes with a complimentary VHS tape of Jordan’s ‘almost’ line drives.”

While fans were excited for another Air Jordan drop, nobody could clarify whether the ‘French Blue’ was inspired by the team’s uniform, a post-game buffet table, or perhaps Michael’s feelings of sadness while riding the bus to Chattanooga.

Collectors immediately snapped up the shoes online, with some noting the new model’s unique features. “The soles are designed for optimal slipping on wet dugout steps,” explained sneaker influencer ‘SneakzByRico.’ “And the laces knot themselves, like Jordan’s batting average.”

Longtime Jordan fan Jasper Wheedle added, “I’m thrilled to own a piece of history. When people see my shoes, I want them to ask, ‘Wait, when did Michael Jordan play baseball?’ That’s the true legacy.”

Nike has assured the public that next season will feature the Air Jordan 11 ‘Golf Cart Green’ in case Jordan ever tries pickleball.
