CHARLOTTE, NC—In a story of plucky perseverance sure to inspire any billionaire’s grandchild, Kristoffer Reitan cemented his legacy Sunday by winning the Truist Championship, a victory that adds a much-needed $3.6 million prize to his family’s estimated $9.1 billion fortune.
The 26-year-old Norwegian, known for his signature driver and signature line of luxury goat-leather luggage, is the grandson of Odd Reitan, whose grocery empire has been referred to in Davos circles as “Norway’s greatest pile of money not currently invested in yachts.” Despite constant adversity—such as deciding which private jet to fly to tournaments—Reitan has prevailed.
“It was tough growing up knowing my trust fund only compounded quarterly,” Reitan confided in a post-tournament press conference, sipping rare spring water sourced from a glacier with his initials on it. “This win really shows what you can accomplish when you have nothing but a family office, a personal nutritionist, and 17 caddies at your back.”
Golf analyst Sven Larsdottir added, “Kristoffer’s story proves anyone can succeed, provided their family controls a sizable chunk of the European food supply.”
Fellow player Chad Wickerson was equally inspired: “I shook his hand after the final round. I could still smell the old money. It was humbling.”
Reitan’s agent, Gustaf Herring, confirmed he would immediately invest the winnings in a new line of GPS-enabled polo shirts “for the golfer who has everything except the existential thrill of needing to win at all.”
