Senate War Powers Vote Actually Strengthens Trump’s Ability To Ignore Senate War Powers Votes

WASHINGTON—In a stunning display of constitutional innovation, the U.S. Senate voted Thursday to limit President Trump’s war powers on Iran, inadvertently granting him exclusive authority to personally ignore all future Senate limitations.

The bipartisan vote, which passed 55-45, was hailed by political consultants as “a bold new chapter in the tradition of legislative futility.” Republican strategist Brock Snowden explained, “The message is clear: the President should not take military action in Iran without consulting Congress—unless he would prefer not to, in which case, never mind.”

Sen. Martha Lumbergh (R–OK) assured constituents, “This historic vote sends President Trump a strong signal that we have concerns about unchecked military power, and he is free to discard those concerns at his earliest convenience.”

Political analysts observed that far from weakening Trump’s standing with congressional Republicans, the vote has inspired fresh displays of fealty. “I support the President’s right to be told no, but also his right to say yes to himself at any time,” declared Rep. Guy Jasper (R–WY), before co-signing a letter urging Trump to veto the resolution, sign it, and then set it on fire just to be safe.

Meanwhile, President Trump tweeted: “Senate says I can’t bomb Iran unless I ask nice. I always ask nice. Will ask even nicer now. Great news! #PresidentialManners.”

As the White House celebrated Congress’s latest assertive gesture, sources reported that staffers were busy developing new, more advanced versions of the Ignore Congress Button, this time with a gold-plated casing and upgraded Wi-Fi.
