‘Special Ops’ Season 2 Viewership Surpasses Population of India, JioHotstar Promises Free Spy Training for All Citizens

MUMBAI — In a development hailed as both a statistical marvel and a potential security threat, JioHotstar announced Thursday that ‘Special Ops’ Season 2 has been streamed by more viewers than the total human population of India, catapulting the espionage thriller to the top of the 2025 streaming charts and raising questions about how many people actually live in the nation.

According to Ormax Media’s audience report, ‘Special Ops’ drew 1.4 billion unique views, a figure which experts say is either a historic milestone or a sign that people have started watching in parallel universes. “Half the country is rewatching it with their alternate egos,” said Arvind Mehra, Senior Algorithm Inflator at JioHotstar. “If you haven’t seen it thrice, are you even Indian?”

JioHotstar capitalized on the show’s success by announcing ‘Operation Common Man,’ a program where all viewers are automatically enrolled in basic spy training. “After so many hours spent watching fake passport forgeries and tense phone calls in dimly lit rooms, it’s only logical,” explained Neha Dummywala, Chief Content Reassurer.

Meanwhile, Netflix responded by claiming 20 spots in the Top 50, mostly by registering accounts for everyone’s pet goats in Uttar Pradesh. “We’re proud of our diverse user base—especially the four-legged ones,” boasted Rajiv Dongle, Netflix’s Head of Unverifiable Metrics.

The government has so far remained silent, but is rumored to be launching a probe into whether the country’s GDP now also consists largely of streaming views and memes.
