Startup Battlefield Finalists Promise To Revolutionize Media Consumption With Apps That Make You Watch TV By Blinking And Yelling ‘Play!’

In a triumph for innovation, the top six media and entertainment startups from Disrupt Startup Battlefield were unveiled this week, confirming that the future of content consumption lies firmly in the hands of people who believe nobody knows how to relax better than a serial founder.

Leading the pack is VibiFy, which claims its app will finally solve the ‘what to watch’ dilemma by randomly generating 30-second mashups of every streaming service at once, leaving users both paralyzed and entertained. “We’re ending decision fatigue by making choice impossible,” beamed CEO and former yogurt influencer Devon Linkletter, as judges stared in exhausted awe.

Not to be outdone, ShoutFlix offers a voice-activated binge system that requires users to loudly scream their favorite genres at their devices. “We wanted to make watching movies more interactive and a lot more awkward for your neighbors,” explained ShoutFlix founder Tara Doon. “Our prototype did explode once at a party, but we’re calling that feature ‘Shout Mode.’”

Startups like MetaPodster—whose platform lets AI generate podcasts about your own life as you live it—also made the final cut. “We believe every moment deserves to be a podcast,” declared CMO Trevor Gladwell, whose personal episode count recently passed 25,000. “I haven’t listened to a single one, but my fridge is hooked.”

TechCrunch editors say the selections highlight a renaissance in digital entertainment. “At this point, we just pick startups based on whose pitch deck has the most emojis,” confessed Disrupt judge Josh Blimpton. “If it confuses us, it’ll probably change the world.”
