US Offers African Nations $350 Million in Exchange for Blood Samples, DNA, and Control of Spotify Playlists

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A series of new health aid agreements between the United States and various African nations has sparked confusion, outrage, and mild amusement after leaked drafts revealed demands for countries to surrender not only medical data and biological samples, but also full access to national playlist curation rights on all major streaming services.

Zimbabwe, previously expected to ink a $350 million deal, abruptly walked out of negotiations, citing concerns that the proposed agreement would “risk undermining national sovereignty and the very important work of our Ministry’s official TikTok dances,” according to Health Minister Dr. Gladys Moyo. “They asked for all our blood samples and the right to remix our national anthem with country music,” Moyo told reporters. “We have to draw the line somewhere.”

Meanwhile, Kenya’s High Court is hearing a lawsuit brought by the Kenyan Association of Privacy and Dancehall DJs over the proposed sharing of “sensitive bio-data and exclusive summer bangers.” US officials defended the agreements as “completely normal international health diplomacy,” with American Aid Negotiator Brock T. Hackett stating, “It’s standard practice for all parties to provide DNA, cell samples, and their best pilau recipes. That’s just how partnerships work.”

The US assured African countries that the deals are “mutually beneficial.” As US Health Envoy Dr. Shirley Grayson explained, “We give you money, you give us data and maybe a kidney or two—everyone wins. Plus, we promise not to use your biometric info for targeted ads on Hulu—unless we have to.”

Observers remain skeptical, citing historical precedents. As international relations expert Dr. Larry Bender noted, “The only thing more lop-sided than these agreements is my mother’s attempt at pancakes.”
