HOLLYWOOD, CA—In what experts are calling “the most comprehensive binge-watch possible,” award-winning director Ava DuVernay announced Thursday her latest Netflix documentary “14th,” focusing on the constitutional amendment that gave birthright citizenship to all people born in the United States, or “the one Donald Trump keeps Googling,” according to Netflix press materials.
“The 14th Amendment is a cornerstone of justice, liberty, and, more importantly, docuseries content,” DuVernay told reporters while leafing through a well-worn pocket Constitution. “After the success of ’13th,’ we knew America was ready for a 15-hour deep dive into every comma of the 14th. Stay tuned for ’15th: Vote Harder,’ premiering next year.”
Netflix, whose library now contains more constitutional dramas than actual law libraries, is investing heavily in the project. “We see this as Netflix’s version of the MCU, except with slightly fewer explosions and 100% more legalese,” said Marge Whitfield, Netflix’s new VP of Amendment Programming. “There’s just no end to these amendments. Frankly, we’re running out of bandwidth to store all the Bill of Rights in 4K.”
The announcement sparked swift responses in Washington. “I’ve never seen the Constitution, but I’m thrilled to be in it,” said Rep. Kevin Bradsworth (R-TX), who plans to cameo as a confused bystander in a reenactment of the Dred Scott decision. Meanwhile, Senator Faye Larch (D-NY) praised DuVernay’s work: “Maybe if we watch this together, Congress will finally figure out what the 14th Amendment actually says—besides the parts they read out loud on C-SPAN.”
DuVernay hinted she’s eyeing a Netflix animated miniseries about the Third Amendment, “for the three people who’ve ever heard of it.”
