In a groundbreaking move, the Recording Academy announced this week that the 2026 Grammy Awards will feature a headlining performance by Clipse and Pharrell Williams, who were last seen together in high definition on a 2003 flip phone commercial.
The announcement, delivered via fax to a select group of radio stations, instantly set the entertainment world abuzz, as fans speculated whether the performance would include a ceremonial burning of low-rise jeans or simply an emotional tribute to ringtones.
“We’re thrilled to bring a little 2000s nostalgia to 2026,” said Grammy chairperson Brenda Vickers, wearing a vintage Von Dutch trucker hat for the livestreamed press conference. “We tried to book someone current, but their schedules were full with TikTok live streams and Fortnite concerts. The Clipse answered our MySpace direct message immediately.”
Music historian Tyrese Malinski applauded the announcement, noting, “This is a brave step for the Grammys, highlighting artists just 23 years past their cultural peak. It’s as if the Oscars announced a hologram of the cast of ‘Dawson’s Creek’ would host.”
Pharrell’s massive 10-gallon hat responded on his behalf in a written statement: “We’re happy, if not slightly confused about what year it is. Still, anything to avoid another Ed Sheeran medley.”
At press time, rumors circulated that the Academy is attempting to lure Smash Mouth out of semi-retirement for a halftime show, provided their AOL dial-up connections can be reestablished.
