LOS GATOS, CA — Netflix announced Wednesday that Anna Kendrick will direct the long-anticipated adaptation of ‘The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo,’ after the streaming giant’s patented Wheel of Directors fortuitously landed on the ‘A-K’ section for the third time this fiscal quarter.
Previous directors Maggie Betts and Leslye Headland reportedly exited the project after discovering that, per Netflix policy, each husband required a different director. ‘I was told I’d be responsible for Husband #3 and possibly the pool boy,’ former director Headland reflected, ‘but then everything changed when the Zoom roulette chose Anna.’
Netflix executives insist the frequent change in leadership is all part of the company’s bold new approach to adaptive chaos. ‘We believe in giving promising filmmakers like Anna Kendrick a chance, primarily because her name was not yet on our director dartboard,’ stated Netflix spokesperson Jasper Klausen. ‘Plus, she has seven carefully curated Spotify playlists for every marriage scenario.’
Fans of the novel remain cautiously optimistic. ‘I look forward to seeing how Anna Kendrick incorporates her signature cup-clapping choreography into the rise and fall of an aging Hollywood icon,’ said Netflix superfan Trina Marshall. ‘I can only assume each husband will get an original song.’
Reached for comment, Kendrick simply said, ‘I considered turning it down, but I accidentally clicked ‘Accept’ on the auto-generated Netflix offer email while deleting spam.’
Production will begin as soon as Netflix finishes randomly selecting the cast using its new Bingo Ball Allocation System.
