In a development as shocking as the continued absence of the Trump Mobile phone itself, the Poplar Group public relations firm has announced it will no longer assist Trump Mobile, citing difficulties representing a product whose only tangible form is a weekly promise of imminent shipping.
“After nine months of telling journalists ‘the phone’s in the mail,’ our team began to suspect there might not be a phone,” admitted Poplar Group’s exhausted spokesperson, Emily Graff, during a hastily arranged media call conducted via carrier pigeon. “At a certain point, saying ‘no comment’ every time someone asks for an update stops feeling strategic and starts feeling existential.”
Sources close to Trump Mobile’s founder, Roger DeMarco, remain upbeat. “We are moving to an all-internal communications strategy,” said DeMarco in a statement delivered by fax to a Radio Shack in Paramus, NJ. “This will allow us to focus on our core mission: emailing people monthly about enormous demand and slight supply chain delays.”
Customers with preorders remain undeterred, according to Trump Mobile superfan Linda Grayson. “I cherish the exclusive Trump Mobile tracking number I received last September. It’s a collector’s item, like a Beanie Baby or D.B. Cooper’s parachute,” Grayson gushed to reporters waiting inside an abandoned strip mall kiosk labeled ‘Coming Fall 2023.’
Although the Poplar Group’s departure is a blow to the company’s media presence, Trump Mobile representatives assure the public that more information is coming soon. In the meantime, consumers are advised to call the customer support line, which connects directly to a looping rendition of ‘Hail to the Chief.’
