SALT LAKE CITY—Utah’s democracy teetered on the brink of collapse Wednesday after state officials released a bombshell audit discovering that approximately 27 of the state’s more than 2 million registered voters were, in fact, not U.S. citizens—raising fears that as many as a dozen and a half elections since 1947 could be in question.
The year-long audit, launched after repeated requests from the Trump administration for literally any evidence of widespread voter fraud, found that 99.72% of Utah voters are verifiably American, while the remaining 0.013% have been rushed to an undisclosed location for enhanced paperwork review. Officials say of the 27 unmasked non-citizens, just 13 had ever cast a ballot, with most reportedly writing in ‘Ryan Gosling’ for every office.
“Utah is now America’s most dangerous swing state,” declared Donald Franken, a self-declared democracy preservationist from the group Citizens Panicking About Everything. “If even one New Zealander voted for dogcatcher, democracy as we know it is over.”
Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson—the official who commissioned the audit—issued a dire warning: “If this trend continues, by the year 4096 we could see nearly 100 non-citizens invade our elections. That is, quite frankly, the kind of slow-motion foreign takeover Hollywood warned us about.”
Meanwhile, the Department of Justice is demanding even greater access to Utah’s voter data, hoping to uncover additional evidence of what DOJ analyst Frank B. Nonymous called “nefarious sleeper cells of Saskatchewan retirees with a thirst for local infrastructure bonds.”
Utah officials promise to remain vigilant. “Even one Canadian with opinions about light rail is too many,” said election auditor Sally Sprague, fortifying the state’s ballot boxes with hockey puck detectors.
