KYOTO, JAPAN — Doubling down on its commitment to both innovation and mild confusion, Nintendo unveiled its latest product this week: a physical, talking flower that cheerfully offers unsolicited commentary any time of day, much like your Aunt Margie but with more petals.

Inspired by the enthusiastic floral character first seen in ‘Super Mario Bros. Wonder,’ the new Talking Flower toy is designed to bring whimsical, barely helpful advice into every corner of your home. According to Nintendo, the flower boasts over 400 unique phrases, ranging from motivational gems like, “You could jump higher if you tried!” to the cryptic, “I saw what you did with the peanut butter.”

Nintendo executives claim the product captures the company’s spirit of playful unpredictability. “Fans have been begging us for a product that’s equal parts adorable and unsettling,” said product manager Kenji Murakami, whose office is now reportedly filled with 27 incessantly chatty blooms. “With the Talking Flower, you’ll never have a quiet moment again.”

Some early adopters are already reporting mixed results. “I bought it for my son, but now it mostly lectures me about recycling,” reported user Linda Park of Des Moines. “Last night it told me my lasagna was ‘adequate, but could use more oregano.’”
