BUDAPEST—In a stirring video message beamed into the cavernous ballroom of Budapest’s Grand Hotel Iron Curtain, former U.S. President Donald Trump officially endorsed Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, calling him “the most fantastic, most powerful man in all of Europe—maybe even the world, who knows, people are saying this.”
The message aired on the jumbotron at the Cpac Hungary conference, where Europe’s far-right leaders gathered for what organizers described as a ‘grand assembly of traditional values and completely normal hats.’ Trump lauded Orbán as a “man who knows how to win, or at least knows how to keep counting the votes until he wins.”
Conference attendees cheered as the former president reminisced about their bromance, fondly calling Orbán his “ideological twin, but with slightly more paprika.”
Orbán, currently facing a formidable challenger in next month’s election, seized on Trump’s declaration. “America sent us their best, and now, apparently, their loudest,” Orbán told reporters. “Together, we will build a continent-wide wall to keep out everything that’s not a statue or a sausage.”
Other attendees, including Italian pasta enthusiast Matteo Salvini and Poland’s honorary ancestor Jarosław Kaczyński, expressed enthusiasm. “We’re here to learn the fine arts of democracy, like how to make sure it happens on your terms,” Salvini explained, adjusting his ceremonial red cap. “Also, Viktor said there’d be cake.”
By day’s end, the conference had voted overwhelmingly to rename Europe ‘Orbanistan,’ pending approval from at least one remaining EU bureaucrat. The only registered objection came from a French delegate who insisted all votes be taken in cursive.
